Color is important but Value is the key to creating exceptional art quilts. This workshop focuses on the important tools for creating inspirational botanicals, landscapes, and portraits. Grace will focus first on Color with an over view of color harmony, color theory, the psychology of color and the expressive aspects of color and value. She will then focus on Value. Students will see value and color in a new way. They will learn how to create Grace’s "Periodic Table of Value and Color" a must have tool for all art quilters. #103 Scrappy Star
Wendy Gilbert
1 Day - Mon - $75

A great way to use up lots of fabric, this is truly a scrap quilt. The sample has over 90 different fabrics. However, the pattern gives you yardage in case you do not have a large stash. The fun part of this quilt is the quick, assembly-line method for sewing the star point. Using partially sewn seams, a second fun technique is introduced in the block assembly. One-fourth yard pieces or fat quarters are big enough or exchange 6" squares with a friend. Supply Fee: $8  Level: All

#104  Town Square, A Study in Precision Piecing
Harriet Hargrave
2 Days - Mon/Tues - $170

Join Harriet for two days and upgrade your piecing skills. This class will go into many subjects that are left out of project classes. A few of the topics covered by hands on experience when piecing the quilt top will be: straightening the grain of your fabrics, finding your "true" accurate seam allowance on your sewing machine, learning to press accurately and with a purpose, planning a pressing system and above all extreme accuracy. Your quilt tops' back will look as good as the front. Some piecing experience is helpful, but whether you are a beginner or advanced beginner, if your 12" blocks are not perfectly 12" finished, you can really get a lot out of this workshop.

Grace Errea

In this workshop, you will create an art quilt with the use of fabrics as an expressive medium.   You will have a choice of  making either a sunset or dawn landscape or the flamingo.  The “landscape” quilt that you will be making is a smaller version of the well know, award winning “Sunset on the Beach”.  The class quilt is called “Popsicle Sunset”, and it will introduce you to Grace’s easy machine appliqué techniques.  It will also entice you with its yummy colors.   Optionally, if you are into early mornings, you can make the same pattern but in the "Creamsicle Dawn" color way.

You can create the Flamingo in any colors you choose.  Why not!!! A blue flamingo as seen under moonlight, a purple flamingo at sunset or the one she made as seen at dawn.  Or even multiple colors.  It is extremely easy and foolproof!  Grace will take you through all her process’ easy steps, from template making to choosing the right fabric (value and color), to stitching, to quilting and even finishing the quilt.  Emphasis will be placed on using value and gorgeous color harmonies to capture nature’s magic in your art piece.  It's quite possible that you will go home with a wall hanging ready to hang in a prominent place.  Supply Fee:  $10  Level:  Experienced beginners and up.

#707 Native American Scholarship Fund

We in Arizona are proud of our state's Native American heritage.  Each year, Quilt Camp in the Pines and Quilting in the Desert are proud to host quilters from the Native American Community.  The quilters like to come to Quilt Camp but it is difficult for them to arrange transportation from their remote mesas, find places to stay in Flagstaff and perhaps arrange for childcare while they are gone.  In the past, generous quiltmakers have donated small quilts for a Silent Auction to raise additional money.  This Auction is held at Quilt Camp in the Pines in Flagstaff.  If you would like to donate a small quilt (up to 36" square), please bring your quilt to the Registration Desk when you check in to Quilting in the Desert or feel free to send it to the Quilt Camp address in Sedona.  If you prefer to make a cash donation, please make checks payable to the Native American Scholarship Fund and mail it to Quilt Camp in the Pines address in Sedona.  You are also welcome to add an amount to your total registration fees in the space provided.

Quilters helping quilters is what it's all about.  Thanks!
