We are very excited about the wonderful response to Quilting in the Desert and
are looking forward to the best experience ever! We know we are going to make
new friends from across the country and see old friends from far and wide. And,
so will you!
The following information will answer questions and help prepare
you for your Quilting in the Desert experience. If you have any questions,
please don't hesitate to call us or contact us by e-mail.
Location: Located in the heart of the Valley of the
Sun and close to some of Arizona's largest malls, the Crowne Plaza is just 30
minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Crowne Plaza Hotel
2532 W. Peoria Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85029
602-943-2341 888-797-9878
www.crowneplaza.com/phx
Directions: Follow Airport Exit signs West to I-10 then north on
I-17 and exit at Peoria Avenue East. Turn right and proceed to the
first traffic light, then turn left onto 25th Avenue. Immediately go
left into the hotel's driveway.
Registration and Parking: On Sunday, January 25, the Registration Desk
will be located in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and will be open from 2 to 5 pm.
From Monday, January 26
through Saturday, January 31, it will be located at Ottawa University,
10020 N 25th Avenue, in the upper lobby. This is the building where the
classes are held. It will be open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm each of
these days. You may check in for your classes at any time during these
hours. There is plenty of free parking available.
Housing: Rooms have been blocked at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. You can
call the hotel directly at 602-943-2341 or 888-797-9878. Refer to
Quilting in the Desert in order to receive the special group rate. A
deposit equal to one night's stay is required to hold each individual's
reservation. This deposit is refundable if notice is received at least 72
hours prior to arrival and a cancellation number is obtained. The room
rate is $119 per night plus tax. This rate will be available until December 28.
After that time, rates may be higher. If you wish to have a roommate, please
contact either Dee or Audrey.
Many people have allergies to scents. Please be
considerate of your room-mates, class-mates and teachers by not using perfumes,
scented body lotions and scented hair sprays. Quilting in the Desert is
proud of their scent-free environment. We want to make everyone's quilting
experience the best and appreciate your thoughtfulness and cooperation. Thanks!
Classes: All classes will be held at Ottawa University,
10020 N 25th Avenue. Hotel guests can use the hotel's free shuttle to the
classes. The classes are priced individually so that you can take only one
class, or however many you would like to take.
Come for one day and take only one class or come for two days, three
days or
the whole week and take a class each day.
There are lots of options.
All kit fees (as stated in the registration form) will be paid to
the teachers. Some teachers will offer an optional kit along with their supply
list and this also is paid to the teachers. Please do not send the fee to us.
Sewing machines will be available for a small rental fee by The
Bernina Connection, 602-553-8350. If you do plan on using your own machine,
don't forget an extension cord that is a surge protector. If you are working
with a borrowed machine, please try a trial run at home before coming to class.
Try to have a few extra bobbins wound and know how to wind more. We believe the
light in the classrooms to be good but, if you need additional brightness,
please bring along a clip light. You might also want to have a luggage carrier
to carry your machine and the bundles, baskets, bags, etc., of stuff!!! The
classrooms will be locked at night so you may leave your things in the rooms.
Camp Supply Store: There will be an on-site Camp Supply
Store. They will be able to assist you with your emergency needs and not so
emergency needs. Check at the registration table for the daily hours. Along with
all those other necessities, there will be a few extra tee-shirts and
sweat-shirts available at the Registration Table but, to insure having your own
waiting for you, be sure to order ahead! There always is someone who is
disappointed...don't let it be you!
Food: There are numerous shops and restaurants that are
readily accessible from Ottawa University and the hotel. The hotel also
has dining facilities.
If you have any questions about anything...please, do not
hesitate to contact us.
